Until then, some parts of it had been Prussian while others belonged to Bavaria. The inhabitants voted to rejoin Germany in a plebiscite held in 1935. From 1947 to 1956 the Saarland was a French occupied territory

I wouldn't gift these... they seem to start having grinding issues after a few days of use. It feels like the grinding piece is binding / going to break when turning the top. Would not purchase again, and look for more durable item.
